That is the astronomical amount for which a bottle of fifty-year old whisky, The Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky 50 YO, part of an edition of 150 bottles by Suntory Spirits Ltd., sold at auction in 2011.

Whisky ambassador Zdeněk Kortiš came to whisky during his work internship and an important career and life stage in Ireland…
… He fell in love namely with its history, as well as its legacy in all things handmade surrounding the making of the “water of life”. From Irish whisky, it’s then just a short leap to Scotch single malts. And Scotland, with its whisky distilleries, breathtaking natural beauty and the rough but honest temperament of its people—similar to our Czech temperament—all this brought him the love of his life.
Since then, regular visits to various distilleries, festivals and blogging about whisky have become a very pleasant part of his professional life as a whisky ambassador.
Whisky, however, can also make for a beautiful and fascinating hobby, and a person may easily succumb to a powerful passion for collecting. Currently, Zdeněk owns more than 2,500 bottles of whisky, and most of these can be viewed at Olomouc’s popular The Black Stuff Irish Pub and Whisky Bar.
Educating not only himself but also sharing his wide range of knowledge with his colleagues, bartenders and others interested in this exquisite spirit, is what he enjoys most in his fulfilling job as whisky ambassador. Being in contact with people who love their work, for example, mainly during the Pernod Ricard Bar Academy project, where Zdeněk of course teaches about whisky, can be powerfully inspiring and fill you with positive energy.
